You are enrolling in the 4-week Beginner Zouk series with instructor Peri Oxford. Classes will be held weekly on Tuesdays 7-8pm from Nov 4-25. This training is role-specific, please select lead or follow role below.
We are excited to offer the opportunity to start your zouk journey with this technical training covering foundational zouk patterns, history, framework and partner connection and communication. Peri has been dancing for 14 years, teaching for 10, and has studied over 30 different dance styles. She has been the owner and director Charlottesville Zouk since 2021 where she teaches Brazilian zouk and lambada weekly and organizes community events.
A note on roles: Lead/Leader role generally initiates and guides movement in the dance; whereas Follow/Follower role generally interprets and executes movements signaled/initiated by the Lead. Lead and Follow roles can be danced by any and all genders and this fluidity is particularly common in Brazilian Zouk.
Enrollment in this series includes admission to the weekly DJ'ed Tuesday Kizzouk Practice Social (8-10pm) during the run of the series (a $24 value). We encourage all students to plan to attend the social to practice what you are learning and build muscle memory and confidence - competence comes from training and repetition, confidence comes from competence!
A minimum of 8 students is needed to move forward for this series. If the minimum is not reached by Oct 28, the series will be cancelled and students will be offered the choice of receiving a refund or rolling over enrollment to another series. No refunds for missed classes or any other reason. Upon request and by approval of organizer, enrollment may be deferred to another session or transferred to another student.
